The Challenge

As part of a large-scale transformation across billing and charging systems, the organisation needed to cleanse legacy data, prevent unnecessary records from being migrated into new platforms, align existing data with the target data model, and ensure that all data was transferred to the correct destination in the correct format and structure throughout the migration lifecycle. The transformation required uninterrupted service continuity and reliable data transition across all migration phases — reducing high post-migration bug-fixing costs and protecting customer experience through real-time monitoring of data anomalies within the new systems.

Our Approach

Together with business and operational teams, we identified the critical data domains impacting the telecom customer lifecycle and defined the audit controls required for each migration phase. Validation controls were implemented across the migration lifecycle, focusing on data integrity, format validation, relationship consistency, and target-system compatibility. Our teams actively participated in migration activities, driving end-to-end auditing processes throughout the transition. Risky and inconsistent data records were identified and eliminated through SQL and PL/SQL-based anomaly detection modules. Ongoing data quality tracking workshops were conducted with operational stakeholders, and real-time summary reporting was established via Tableau dashboards to continuously monitor migration quality and data consistency during execution.

The Outcome

Redundant legacy data was significantly reduced through defined validation and filtering controls, ensuring only compliant and high-quality datasets were transferred to target platforms. Despite two large-scale system migrations, service continuity and customer experience were maintained without operational disruption. Post-migration bug-fixing efforts remained substantially lower compared to similar transformation projects.
