𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗢 is the name of a butterfly genus classified under the family Nymphalidae. The 21 Caligo species are known colloquially as “Owl Butterflies”, due to the owl-like false eyes, and the feathery appearance of the underside wings. The Caligo can be found from southern Mexico down through Central America and Colombia and into Peru and the Amazon. It can live as high as 1,500 m in elevation.
